The World Becomes More Globalized And The Internet

Introduction As the world becomes more globalized and the internet continues to provide a forum for unscrupulous organizations and persons, Transnational Crime Organizations (TCOs) have evolved from the traditional local community thugs to more fluid, nebulas, and adaptive entities connected to other groups. Given their more nibble far reaching status and connections to other nefarious organizations, are TCOs a bigger threat to National Security than previously thought and should they receive a higher intelligence priority? Research indicates that TCOs are no longer tied to the traditional boundaries of local neighborhoods, allowing them to be far more reaching than ever before. The use of the internet brings with it anonymity, global reach, and instantaneous transactions making criminals a bigger threat to U.S. National Security that the previous decade. Likewise, TCOs have begun forming alliances with other TCOs as well as terrorist organizations making them a more daunting threat than pre viously believed. TCO’s ability to reach far beyond their borders, team with other criminal organizations, and associate with international terrorists compounds their reign of terror and makes them a much more formidable threat than previously assessed.
